Intro to Training & Racing Clinic

Audience:

  • Anyone interested in recreational to performance-oriented group cycling rides, clinics, and races. This includes crits, triathlon, cyclocross, bike packing, track, centuries, etc.

  • Even if you don’t plan on collegiate racing right away, or ever: there’s a pathway available to develop, make friends, get stronger, and achieve your goals!

  • Representatives from the UCVC, Uchicago Triathlon, xXx, Indigo, Evolution, Okay, and the Uchicago Outdoor Adventure Club will be present.

Objectives:

  • Reduce redundant training resources

  • Produce “quick start guide” for new athletes

AGENDA

  • Overview of spring group rides

    • Local Hyde Park vs city-wide rides

    • MNR, WNR, CCC, Judson, Pas Normal, FMR, etc

    • Discussion: eliminating overlap, invite vs open rides, channeling new riders into the appropriate resources

  • Race & Event Calendar

    • Overview of Collegiate Road, Amateur Road, Gravel/adventure

    • Focus on: Monsters, Pastry Bike Pastry, Skyway, Indiana Dunes bikepacking

  • Clinics & skills sessions

    • xXx, Indigo, Northbrook, Tamago

  • Equipment, licenses, loaner bikes

    • First bike ideally is a versatile cx/gravel/all-road

  • Quick Start Guide & Curriculum

    • For first year athletes who are still navigating the sport

    • Weekly coached training ride options (1 weekday, 1 weekday)

    • Complete 2 skills clinics

    • Enter one of the focus events in May
